वाल्मीकि टाइगर रिजर्व बिहार के पश्चिमी चंपारण जिले में स्थित है और बिहार का एकमात्र बाघ अभयारण्य है। इसकी स्थापना 1990 में प्रोजेक्ट टाइगर के तहत की गई थी और यह लगभग 899.38 वर्ग किमी क्षेत्रफल में फैला है। यह रिजर्व हिमालय की तलहटी में स्थित है और उत्तर में नेपाल सीमा और पूर्व में गंडक नदी से घिरा है। पूर्वी चंपारण जिला पश्चिमी चंपारण से सटा हुआ है लेकिन टाइगर रिजर्व विशेष रूप से पश्चिमी चंपारण में है। सीतामढ़ी देवी सीता की जन्मस्थली (जानकी मंदिर) से जुड़ा है। गोपालगंज उत्तर-पश्चिमी बिहार का एक जिला है लेकिन इसमें टाइगर रिजर्व नहीं है। वाल्मीकि टाइगर रिजर्व एक रामसर आर्द्रभूमि स्थल भी है।
