Introduction Space science | Variations in X-rays can reveal how matter behaves near a spinning black hole. Explanation QPO means quasi-periodic oscillation, a nearly regular variation in radiation brightness. ARIES researchers modelled viscous accretion flows around spinning black holes. Their simulations linked unstable, oscillating shocks in the flow to X-ray variability across different frequencies. Faster spin could bring the shock closer and produce higher frequencies. The radiation is emitted by matter around the black hole, not light escaping from inside its event horizon. The release concerns numerical research and its physical interpretation. Important Notes QPO: quasi-periodic oscillation. Institute: ARIES, under DST. Subject: accretion flows and black-hole spin. Source: https://www.pib.gov.in/PressReleasePage.aspx?PRID=2327410
