Which DRDO laboratory developed the indigenous AIP Energy Module whose STW-2 activity began on 24 October 2026?

India’s indigenous submarine-propulsion programme reached another testing milestone. The event concerned an energy module, rather than the commissioning of a submarine.
The developer was DRDO’s Naval Materials Research Laboratory, abbreviated NMRL. The milestone concerned the Air Independent Propulsion Energy Module at L&T’s Hazira facility in Gujarat. In a technology question, the developer, industrial partner and eventual integrator may be different organisations. Read their roles separately: inventing a system, carrying out industrial work and fitting it into a vessel are not interchangeable tasks. STW-2 marks progress in that development chain, rather than completion of every stage. Source: https://www.pib.gov.in/PressReleasePage.aspx?PRID=2328040
