Source apportionment estimates how much different sources contribute to air pollution. It is a diagnostic step: instead of treating every source as equally important, agencies can examine the evidence for a particular place and time. A percentage shown at one moment should not be turned into a permanent share for an entire season. This question tests the meaning of the method, rather than a changing pollution reading.
