Which Indian city was chosen in September 2026 to host the UCI Road World Championships in 2032?

Last Updated:

The UCI Road World Championships are cycling's most prestigious one-day races, where riders compete for national teams rather than trade teams. Winners of the road race earn the right to wear the famous rainbow jersey for the following year. The championships include road races and time trials for elite men and women, under-23 riders and juniors, along with mixed team relays. Africa hosted the Road World Championships for the first time in 2025, in Kigali, Rwanda, and Montreal staged the 2026 edition. Pune's successful bid adds to India's growing list of global sporting events, alongside cricket World Cups and the 2030 Commonwealth Games. Questions on the host of the UCI Road World Championships appear in sports current affairs.

Correct Answer: PuneYour Answer: A

Explanation

Correct answer: Option A (Pune). Pune in Maharashtra was chosen to host the 2032 UCI Road World Championships at the UCI's 195th Congress in Montreal, Canada, in September 2026. Pune defeated a rival bid from Groningen and Drenthe in the Netherlands, and the event will be the first time India hosts the Road World Championships. Hyderabad has hosted major multi-sport events such as the 2003 Afro-Asian Games, but it was not selected for 2032. Bengaluru is an important sports and training hub, yet it did not bid for the 2032 UCI Road World Championships. Ahmedabad has been named host of the 2030 Commonwealth Games, which is a different event from the cycling championships. Remember: Pune will host the UCI Road World Championships in 2032.
