Air conditioner controls temperature and air speed. What additional parameter does it also control?

Last Updated:

AColor of light in the room
BHumidity of air
CCarbon dioxide level
DOxygen level in room
Correct Answer: Humidity of airYour Answer: B

Explanation

Air conditioners are comprehensive climate control systems. Air conditioners have no mechanism to control the color of light in a room. Light color is controlled by lighting systems completely separate from HVAC (Heating Ventilation Air Conditioning) systems. An air conditioner controls humidity through the following mechanism: When warm humid air passes over the cold evaporator coils (which are below the dew point temperature) moisture from the air condenses on the coils and drips into a drain pan. This removes water vapor from the air reducing the humidity (relative humidity) of the room. This dehumidification is a key function of air conditioners. This is why AC rooms feel dry and a glass of water placed in AC room may stay cool longer. This is also why people with joint problems sometimes feel discomfort in heavily air conditioned rooms (dry air). Air conditioners do not control CO2 levels. CO2 management requires ventilation systems that exchange indoor and outdoor air or CO2 scrubbers. Air conditioners do not add or remove oxygen. They simply cool and dehumidify the existing air by recirculating it.

What is heat in physics?

Heat is a form of energy that transfers between objects or systems due to a temperature difference, moving from a hotter body to a cooler one until thermal equilibrium is reached.
